HICKORY – Kannapolis collected all of its runs in two at-bats on Thursday night, snapping a three-game win streak by Hickory with a 7-5 baseball victory at L.P. Frans Stadium.

The South Atlantic League (SAL) game was played before a crowd of 1,225 on Rudy Wright Night at the stadium, honoring the late Hickory mayor on what would have been his 70th birthday.

The Crawdads (36-49, 9-6 second half, Northern Division) led 2-0 through five innings before the Intimidators (44-39, 5-10 second half) scored three runs in the sixth inning and then added four in the seventh inning to go up 7-2.

Eric Jenkins went 2-for-5 with an RBI and Anderson Tejeda was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Hickory, which went 3-for-14 with runners in scoring position.

Crawdads starter Reid Anderson (1-5) took the loss, going 5 2/3 innings. He gave up four hits, three runs (all earned), walked one and struck out six.

Luis Martinez (2-5), the Intimidators’ starter, gained a win after throwing five innings. He gave up two runs (one earned), issued a walk and struck out six.

Matt Foster, the fourth Kannapolis pitcher, worked 1 1/3 innings and struck out three to pick up his third save of the season.

The game took three hours, 38 mintues to complete and closed a three-game series.

Hickory has four home games coming against Delmarva (Md.) and shares second place in the Northern Division with the Shorebirds, both trailing Hagerstown (Md.) by two games.

Game 1 of a four-game series with Delmarva is at 7 p.m. on Friday. The teams play Saturday at 7 p.m., Sunday at 5 p.m. and the series finale at noon on Monday.

After a day off, the Crawdads will then play six games on the road – three in Asheville and three in Greenville, S.C.
