HICKORY – Hickory Crawdads right-hander Jonathan Hernandez has been named the Pitcher of the Week in South Atlantic League (SAL) baseball.
Hernandez threw seven shutout innings, allowing one hit and striking out six over seven innings, against Greensboro on May 15.
The award is for the week of May 15-21.
Hernandez leads the Crawdads’ starting pitchers in strikeouts (37), ERA (2.80) and innings pitched (35.1). He has walked just 11 batters.
The Texas Rangers, the parent club for Class A Hickory, signed Hernandez as an international free agent in 2013.
Hernandez is the second Crawdads player this season to win an SAL weekly award. Yanio Perez won Player of the Week in the season’s third week.
