CRAWDADS: Cody fans 10 to shut Power down in series finale

CHARLESTON, W. Va. – Kyle Cody was dialed in on Monday night, turning off the Power by allowing one hit and striking out 10 to lead Hickory to a 5-2 road victory.

Cody (4-6) threw six innings, gave up one run (unearned) and walked three as the Crawdads ended a road trip with a win before 6,186.

Hickory (34-48, 7-5 second half Northern Division) is at home for the next seven days. The homestand begins on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. against Kannapolis.

In a series finale in Charleston, W. Va., the Crawdads outhit the Power 10-5 in a game that had only one extra base hit, a double by Hickory’s Blaine Prescott.

Prescott, batting leadoff, went 3-for-5 to spark the Crawdads. Carlos Garay added two hits and an RBI and Yeyson Yrizarri also drove in a run for Hickory.

Victor Fernandez led West Virginia (36-42, 6-6) with two hits and Albert Baur had an RBI for the Power.

After Cody left the game, the Crawdads used three pitchers to gain a win – Jacob Lemoine threw 1 1/3 innings, Nick Dignacco got two outs and Kaleb Fontenot closed with his fifth save (one inning, one hit, two strikeouts).

West Virginia starter Luis Escobar (6-4) took the loss, going four innings. He allowed three hits, two runs (one earned), walked two and struck out three.

The Crawdads’ homestand continues on Wednesday and Thursday at 7 p.m., against Kannapolis, at L.P. Frans Stadium. Delmarva (Md.) then visits for 7 p.m. games on Friday and Saturday, a 5 p.m. game on Sunday and a noon game on Monday.

Hickory heads home in third place in the Northern Division, one game back of Delmarva and two back of division-leading Hagerstown (Md.).
