ROCK HILL, S.C. – Four Lenoir-Rhyne University women’s soccer players have earned All-South Atlantic Conference honors with three of them selected first-team by the league coaches.
The conference announced the honors on Wednesday and they included junior midfielder Abbie Brown of Leeds, England plus sophomore midfielder Abigael McGarel of Morristown, Tenn., and sophomore defenders Christina Simshock of Asheville from LRU on the first team.
Senior defender Helen Ramsey of Port Saint Lucie, Fla., was a second-team pick for the Bears.
Brown led LRU in goals (7), assists (5) and total points (19) this season while McGarel, last season’s SAC Freshman of the Year, had three goals and assist and seven points.
Shimshock had two assists in 16 starts for the Bears and anchored a backline that allowed only 18 goals in 18 matches and registered seven shutouts this year.
LRU (11-5-2, 6-3-1) was eliminated from the league tournament on Tuesday, falling 4-2 to Tusculum on penalty kicks in a quarterfinal match on the road.
The Bears posted their 10th straight winning season.
