HICKORY – Catawba Valley Community College’s men overcame an early 15-point deficit and defeated Central Carolina Community College 93-70 on Friday, the opening day of the PDQ Classic at the Tarlton Complex.
Isayah Johnson scored 14 points and Victor Tshiona added 13 points for the Red Hawks (4-6), who had six players in double-figure scoring.
Caleb Bryson, Steve Ruszala, Dante Starr and Tyrell Ogelsby each added 10 points for CVCC, which plays Johnston Community College on Saturday at 3 p.m. on the final day of the Classic.
Admission is free and Saturday’s action begins at 1 p.m. with Guilford Tech facing Central Carolina.
On Friday, the Red Hawks trailed 19-4 in the first half before going on a 24-7 run to take control for good against Central Carolina.
CVCC outscored the Cougars 49-31 during the second half.
David Thompson scored 22 points to lead Central Carolina (8-8).
