HICKORY – A third Alexander Central High volleyball standout is headed to play next season for Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC).
The Red Hawks announced Thursday morning they’ve signed Sage Harrington of the Cougars, who will join prep teammates Kelsea Dejarnette and Chesney Millsaps at CVCC after the latter two signed in November.
Harrington officially joined the Red Hawks during a special signing ceremony held by the Cougars on Wednesday morning in Taylorsville.
“Sage is a wonderful late addition to our fall roster,” CVCC head coach Shannon Hudson said in a press release. “She is a consistent, dominating middle who doesn’t let her size deter her from scoring.
“Sage’s speed and experience work to her advantage on the net and we are excited to utilize those attributes this upcoming season.”
Harrington led the Cougars last season with 218 kills, and she also tallied 94 blocks, 38 digs and 24 aces for a 17-8 team that went 10-4 in the Northwestern 3A-4A and reached the second round of the state 3A playoffs.
“It’s always nice to bring local players onto the roster and in this case, it’s a huge gain for Catawba Valley athletics,” Hudson said of landing Harrington.
Harrington joins a 2018 Catawba Valley volleyball recruiting class that also includes Fred T. Foard’s Jayln Rice, First Assembly Christian’s Anna Clarke, North Buncombe’s Bre Myers, North Henderson’s Zoe Phillips, North Surry’s Paige Sizemore, St. Stephens’ Madison Bolch, Watauga’s Emma Clark, West Iredell’s Macy Pope, West Stokes’ Abigail Gordon and Rachel Delcamp, Sophie Brennan of Willmette (Ore.) and West Virginia Tech transfer Lauren McCall.
