PERRYSBURG, Ohio – Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) is headed home with a 3-2 record after playing four matches over the weekend at the Owens Express Invitational.

After losing twice on Friday, the Red Hawks beat Vincennes (Ind.) University and Glen Oaks (Mich.) Community College on Saturday.

CVCC plays at USC Salkehatchie on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. and then has trips to Florida, New York and Lancaster, S.C., before playing a home match on Sept. 21 in a tournament at the Tarlton Complex.

“I am so proud of how the team came together this weekend, especially Saturday,” CVCC head coach Shannon Hudson said via school press release. “We faced a really tough opponent in Parkland for our first match, and it was a struggle to come back from it against St. Clair on Friday afternoon, but we regrouped and learned a lot about ourselves during those two tough losses.

“We fought in two competitive five-set matches Saturday, and it was great to come out with two wins … The girls gained confidence in each other and started playing more aggressively as the tournament went on. I’m thankful for this group of young ladies and their hard work so far this season.”
