HICKORY – The Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) bass fishing team is preparing a fundraiser for Dec. 12 on Lake Hickory.

“Reeling In For Red Hawks” is scheduled on a Saturday at the Whitteburg ramp on Lake Hickory from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Team entry is $100 and $10 for the Big Fish competition.

Funds raised will provide scholarship opportunities for current and future Red Hawks anglers as well as travel expenses, equipment and tournament entry fees.

“We are very fortunate to live in an area with a great fishing community,” said CVCC bass fishing head coach Angela Mayo. “We have received a lot of support for our program, but this tournament is a great opportunity for everyone to come out and enjoy a day on the water and support the CVCC anglers at the same time.”

CVCC has had a bass fishing team for two years and has already qualified five anglers for the Fishing League Worldwide (FLW) and Bassmaster College National Championships. Recently, two anglers qualified for the North Carolina B.A.S.S. State Team.

Mayo believes the upcoming tournament will help her program continue its positive momentum.

“Fishing is such an expensive sport so we are holding this fundraiser tournament to help our anglers stay on the water and continue their success,” Mayo said.

For more information or to register, donate or sponsor the tournament, contact Mayo at amayo095@cvcc.edu or call (828) 612-7940.
