HICKORY – Former West Lincoln High baseball star Chandler Jenkins is the second Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) player to earn a first-team All-America award from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

The selection of Jenkins – the NJCAA Region 10 Player of the Year — was announced Tuesday by CVCC athletic officials. It’s the sixth straight season CVCC has had an All-American pick.

Jenkins placed in the top 10 in seven offensive categories this season and in the top four in four. Nationally, he was third in home runs (18), total bases (164) and extra base hits (40) and fourth in slugging percentage (.868).

He ranked seventh in the nation in hits (87), RBIs (74) and batting average (.460) and was 12th in the nation with 21 doubles.

“We are very excited for our program to have its sixth straight All-American,” CVCC head baseball coach Paul Rozelle said in a press release. “We take pride in our players’ achievements as it is a testimony to their hard work.

“Chandler is no different. He joins a special group of players that have come through our program and he definitely belongs there as an ultimate competitor. I wish I could have 35 of him every year.”

Jenkins transferred to CVCC after a red-shirt year at Gardner Webb. After an injury-shortened freshman season in 2016, Jenkins posted one of the best CVCC individual seasons in program history by breaking seven season team records.

He is in the top three of six career categories at CVCC, and he was also named to the NJCAA’s third-team All-Academic team.

Jenkins signed to play baseball at East Carolina next fall.
