HICKORY – The Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) women have two weekend road basketball games ahead, starting with a game against Wake Tech.

The Red Hawks (17-3) won big on Tuesday in their last game, pounding visiting Patrick Henry (Va.) Community College 103-58 to extend their win streak to nine games.

CVCC meets Wake Tech in Raleigh at 2 p.m. on Saturday and has a Sunday game at 2 p.m. in Kinston against Lenoir Community College.

Ranked No. 20 in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) poll, the Red Hawks rode a career-high 32 points by sophomore forward Sherry Johnson to beat Patrick Henry. Freshman guard Ivy Eller also had a career-high scoring game with 21 points.

Taziah Hardin also tied her career-best scoring with 12 points.

CVCC scored only two points in the opening four minutes at the Tarlton Complex then went on a 28-3 run over the final six minutes of the quarter to lead 30-6.

The Red Hawks were up 51-20 by halftime.

Zharia Brown and Aniya Taylor also reached double figures for CVCC with 14 and 11 points, respectively.

Keme Lester led the Patriots with 24 points, while Vernicia Glass added 17 points.
