CHARLESTON, W. Va. – Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) headed home with the best national finish in program history in women’s volleyball.

The 10th-seeded Red Hawks beat No. 13 Moraine Valley 25-23, 25-22, 25-20 on Saturday to place ninth in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II tournament at the Charleston (W. Va.) Civic Center.

It’s the first time CVCC has won three matches at the national tournament, and the Red Hawks finished 36-10.

“After our first loss, we came out with a new goal to go 3-for-3 and be the winningest team in CVCC history at the national tournament, and they did it,” CVCC head coach Shannon Hudson said in a school press release. “They played really well, especially today. They put everything together and played as a team.

“I’m just really excited and proud of how they played all year long, but to finish like this with a win at the national tournament was just such a privilege for me as a coach.”

Rachel Delcamp paced the Red Hawks with a team-high 10 kills. Emma Clark added nine kills and six blocks and Sage Harrington had eight kills and three blocks.

Setters Emilee Webber and Macy Pope provided 15 and 13 assists, respectively, for CVCC.

On defense, Emily Williams and Meredith Patterson each had 12 digs and Madison Bolch added 10 for the Red Hawks.

Clark, a freshman from Boone who played high school volleyball at Watauga, made the all-tournament team.

Saturday’s match completed the careers of four CVCC players — Webber, Williams and outside hitters Karsyn Mundy and Na-Diea Atkins.
