NEWTON – Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) will try to rebound from a first when it plays its next baseball game on Tuesday in a doubleheader at Spartanburg (S.C.) Methodist.

The Red Hawks were run-ruled for the first time this season on Saturday, falling 12-2 to Region X rival Brunswick Community College at the Legion Fairgrounds.

CVCC’s games on Tuesday in Spartanburg will start at 1 p.m., and the Red Hawks go in 26-17 overall and 10-8 in Region X.

The Red Hawks had not been run-ruled since a 12-2, six-inning loss to Brunswick on April 9, 2016.

CVCC was scheduled to play three games over the weekend against Brunswick, but Friday’s game was rained out and a second game on Saturday was stopped by inclement weather in the second inning (it won’t be made up).

Outfielder Brett Eurey led the Red Hawks on Saturday, going 2-for-4 with a home run (his fourth of the season).

Infielder R.J. Conner added two hits, one a double, and Tyler Campbell and Jamie Sheek each had a hit for CVCC.

Starting pitcher Blake Dockery took a loss, his second of the year, after allowing seven hits, an earned run, a walk and striking out five over four innings.

Kyle Tatum and Tristain Marsch led Brunswick (31-8, 21-4) with two RBIs each. Kolbie MacKinnon recorded a team-high three hits, while Chase Sykes, Hunter Ashburn and Alec Dumas each had two hits.

Dolphins starting pitcher Josh Jarman picked up a win, allowing four hits, one earned run, one walk and striking out five.
