Randolph County kept Hickory Post 48 looking for its first American Legion baseball win of the season on Saturday with a 12-5 and 10-9 sweep at McCrary Park in Asheboro.

Hickory dropped to 0-3 and will next play on Monday at 7 p.m. in its home opener against Rowan County at the Legion Fairgrounds in Newton.

Austin Houser went 3-for-5 with two doubles to lead Post 48 in the opening game, where Weston Kerley took the pitching loss.

In the second game, Randolph County won in the bottom of the seventh with a run via a walk-off sacrifice fly.

Taiven Caniped led Post 48, going 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs. Houser added two hits, Hayden McGraw and Shea Maske each drove in two runs, and Caleb Lutjens scored twice.

Houser was the losing pitcher in the second game.

Post 48 has made some schedule changes for games against Rutherford County due to R-S Central High reaching a best-of-3 series for the state 2A baseball championship.

A game with Rutherford County scheduled Wednesday in Hickory has been moved to June 23 and a June 29 playing date, at Rutherford County, has been added. As a result, Post 48 has cancelled a June 26 home game against Shelby.
