MAIDEN – The Salamanders — off to their best start ever — are nearing the end of an eight-day break as they return to action on Thursday night to play the first of seven consecutive nights of American Legion baseball.

Head coach David Williams’ Post 240 team (6-2) last played on June 6, splitting a doubleheader against Belmont at Belmont Abbey College, and the Salamanders’ first game back is Thursday night at Maiden High.

A 7 p.m. first-pitch is against Mint Hill on Thursday, followed Friday at 7 p.m. with a game against Huntersville (7 p.m.) at North Mecklenburg High.

On Saturday, the Salamanders are at home at 7 p.m. against the Lincoln County Cardinals, and Henderson County visits Sunday at 7 p.m.

The long stretch of games continues Monday when Post 240 goes to Kings Mountain High (7 p.m.) to battle Kings Mountain, followed by a Tuesday 7 p.m. against at Morganton (Shuey Field) and a June 20 game against Mint Hill at Independence High (7 p.m.).

The Salamanders get one day of rest, on June 21, before going to Newton to play Hickory Post 48 in a 7 p.m. game on June 22 at the Legion Fairgrounds.
