MAIDEN – Henderson County stopped Maiden Post 240’s win streak in American Legion baseball at three games on Sunday night, beating the Salamanders 9-5 at Maiden High.
The loss dropped Maiden to 9-3 overall heading into a three-game stretch in three nights that starts on Monday at 7 p.m. with a game against Kings Mountain at Kings Mountain High.
Post 240 plays Burke County at Shuey Field in Morganton on Tuesday at 7 p.m., then meets Mint Hill Post 4059 on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Independence High.
Maiden’s final game of this week is Friday at 7 p.m. against Hickory at the Legion Fairgrounds in Newton.
The Salamanders ran their win streak to three on Saturday night when, playing at home, they beat Lincoln County’s Cardinals’ 15-5 in five innings.
Maiden won five straight to start its best season in program history before losing 9-6 to Gastonia Post 23.
After splitting a doubleheader against Belmont Post 144/266 to sit 6-2, the Salamanders beat Mint Hill 10-7, Huntersville 3-2 on the road and Lincoln County to improve to 9-2.
No other game details were available from games on Saturday and Sunday.
Post 240 has announced one schedule change – its game originally set for July 1 against Gastonia has been moved to a 7 p.m. start, at Sims, on June 30.
Maiden’s current schedule has it closing the regular season on July 4 at home against Huntersville.
Post 240 is playing in Area IV’s East Division, battling Shelby for first place, and the Area IV playoffs are scheduled to begin on July 7.
