PITTSBURGH — Alec Burleson will go into Saturday night’s game still seeking his first major league hit.
Burleson, an outfielder for the St. Louis Cardinals, was the designated hitter on Friday in his second big lead game, at Pittsburgh, in an 8-2 loss before 15,718.

He batted seventh and went 0-fo-2 and left three runners on base before being pinch-hit for by one of the game’s greatest all-time players, Albert Pujols.
The series continues tonight at 6:35 p.m.
Burleson starred in high school baseball at East Lincoln and in college baseball at East Carolina.
He was 0-for-4 on Thursday in St. Louis when the Washington Nationals beat the Cardinals 11-6.
St. Louis promoted Burleson from Triple A Memphis (Tenn.) on Wednesday but he did not get into the game that night against Washington.
Burleson, 23, played 109 games at Memphis this season, hitting 20 home runs, 25 doubles, driving in 87 runs and hitting .331.
In 228 career minor league games, he hit .300 with 42 home runs, 43 doubles and 163 RBIs.
