CHARLOTTE – Lenoir-Rhyne University’s swim teams were each beaten twice as they opened the season on Saturday at the Levine Center.
The Bears’ men were beaten 112-77 by Queens, a three-time defending national champion, and Limestone beat LRU 149-53.
Queens’ women, also three-time national champs, downed the Bears 120-62 and Limestone edged LRU 109-71.
LRU freshman Spencer Ashby finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke in one minute, 2.06 seconds to lead the Bears’ men.
Finishing third in the 200-yard freestyle (1:445.54) as sophomore Jacob Queen of the Bears, and sophomore Dillon Cary was third at 5:27.21 in the men’s 500-yard freestyle.
Sophomore Jessica Myers and the Bears’ 400-yard freestyle women’s team placed second in their events.
Myers was runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:15.24 while the 400 freestyle team of Jamie Fullerton, Cora Dodson, Alyx Koert and Kelsey Krumanocker took second in 4:05.66.
The Bears’ Addison Herndon was third in the 500-yard freestyle (5:34.60) and Krumanocker finished in 1:16.89 to finish third in the 100-yard breaststroke.
The next meet for both Bears teams is Saturday at home against Catawba at the Shuford Physical Education Center.
