SALISBURY – Scoring three straight goals on Wednesday night, the Lenoir-Rhyne University women nipped host Catawba 3-2 in South Atlantic Conference (SAC) soccer.
Down by one score at the half, the Bears (1-4-1, 6-2-1) gained the lead when senior defender Helen Ramsey, sophomore forward Hannah Van Eerden and junior midfielder Abbie Brown scored a goal each.
The eventual game-winner, which gave the Bears three straight wins, was Brown’s sixth goal of the season and Van Eerden’s goal was her fourth.
Catawba (6-9, 3-6) scored its last goal in the final 95 seconds (by Abbie Bensted).
Alayna Morris was in goal for the Bears, making three saves, and Catawba goalkeeper Shelby Thompson had one save.
With the win, LRU is assured of finishing no worse than fifth place in the SAC.
LRU has a home match at 2 p.m. Saturday, facing Newberry (S.C.) in a conference match.
