Zach Jarrett drove in three runs in the first game of a doubleheader on Thursday night, helping Norfolk (Va.) win 8-4 in Charlotte.
Charlotte won the second game 8-7.
Jarrett, a former star at Hickory High and in college at Charlotte, went 1-for-2 in the opening game. He also walked once and had three RBIs, batting sixth in the Tides order and starting in centerfield.
In the nightcap, Jarrett was in the same spot in the batting order and in the field but went 0-for-3.
The series continues Friday through Sunday in Charlotte.
Jarrett is batting .228 with nine home runs and 36 RBIs this season.
The teams were rained out Wednesday night, setting up Thursday’s doubleheader.
The game on Friday is at 7:04 p.m., with Saturday’s start at 5:05 p.m. and Sunday’s game at 4:45 p.m.
The Tides are 48-72 in the Triple-A East Southeast Division. They will not make the playoffs.
After the Charlotte series, the Tides will play five games at home against Durham (starting Wednesday) to end the season.
Jarrett has been in Triple-A since a promotion from Double-A Bowie (Md.) on May 19.
He has twice been assigned to the Baltimore Orioles during his career (March 2019 and February 2020), after being drafted by the club in 2017 in the 28th round.
