The two Catawba County baseball stars drafted by the Baltimore Orioles are now on the same team — the Norfolk (Va.) Tides in Triple A.
The Orioles sent right-hander Hunter Harvey to Norfolk on Sunday as a rehab assignment, and he picked up a relief win on Tuesday night in Norfolk.
Norfolk beat Charlotte 9-2 as Jarrett, batting No. 7 in the order and starting in right field, had a hit and drove in a run for the Tides.
Harvey, who played at Bandys High, has been on the 60-day disabled list with the Orioles. That began on March 6 as he is recovering from an oblique injury.
He threw one inning on Wednesday night, facing five batters and 12 of his 16 pitches were strikes. He allowed two hits.
A crowd of 2,271 survived 92 degree weather to see Norfolk improve to 6-14 and drop Charlotte to 7-17.
Norfolk is in last place — 8 1/2 games back of first-place Nashville, in the Southeastern Division of High-A East.
Both Harvey and Jarrett are making names for themselves, independent of their famous dads. Harvey is the son of two-time All-Star reliever Bryan Harvey and Jarrett’s dad is former NASCAR champion Dale Jarrett.
