EAST-WEST BOYS’ SOCCER: West wins as Watauga’s Alvarez scores only goal

GREENSBORO – Watauga High’s Jair Alvarez scored on a rebound kick on Tuesday night to lift the West past the East 1-0 in the East-West All-Star boys’ soccer match.

Alvarez broke a scoreless tie at McPherson Park at the 69:05 mark, scoring from about 10 yards away after the East had made a save on a shot on goal. He was named the match MVP.

Brandon Linares of Bishop McGuinness earned a save on the West goal.

The West had seven shots, half as many as the East, and there were five saves in the match.

Alvarez was one of two players on the West roster from the Greater Hickory area’s three conferences – the other was Dilan Esperilla of Newton-Conover.
