HUNTER HARVEY

(Class AA Bowie, Md., Baysox)

Harvey, a first round pick by Baltimore in 2013, made his eighth start of the season on Saturday and gained is second victory as the Baysox pounded visiting Erie (Pa.) 12-1 before 8,1093.

He pitched six innings, allowing one run (earned), walking none and striking out eight to improve to 2-3 this season with an ERA of 5.45.

Harvey threw strikes on 64 of his 85 pitches and faced 23  batters.

After eight starts this season, he has pitched 36 1/3 innings, allowed 27 runs (22 earned), hit four batters, walked 10 and struck out 40.

The win was the 10th in pro ball for Harvey (10-13, 3.51 ERA) with 70 walks and 257 strikeouts.

He had not pitched since the previous Monday before Saturday’s strong outing.

Bowie (x-x) continues the series at home against Erie on Sunday  and then plays Binghamton (N.Y.) in a three-game series that begins at Bowie on Monday.

DEAL

HAYDEN DEAL

(Class A Advanced Florida Fire Frogs)

Deal, a left-hander who played at Bandys High and Presbyterian College, is the scheduled starter for Florida (18-24) on Sunday for a home game against Jupiter (Fla.) with a noon first pitch.

He’s 2-2 this season with an ERA of 1.30 after seven appearances, all starts. He’s thrown 41 2/3 innings, allowed eight runs (six earned), walked 11 and struck out 38, and opponents are hitting .188 against him.

Deal is 14-5 as a pro. After 48 games and 12 starts, he has walked 37 and struck out 147.

He did not pitch in games on Wednesday through Saturday when Florida swept St. Lucie (Fla.) 6-5 and 5-4 in a home twinbill, beat St. Lucie 3-2 and fell 2-1 in another Thursday twinbill, and then began the series with Jupiter.

Jupiter won 8-6 on Friday and Florida won 12-2 on Saturday.

In Rome (Ga.) last season, Deal went 9-1 with an ERA of 2.17 in 27 games (five starts), earning two saves and pitching 78 2/3 innings. He walked 17 and struck out 82.

ZACH JARRETT

(Class AA Bowie, Md., Baysox)

Jarrett, a former star at Hickory High and at Charlotte, was not in the lineup on Saturday when Bowie defeated visiting Erie (Pa.) 12-1.

He went 1-for-3 and drove in a run on Friday in a 4-3 home win over Erie, 0-for-4 at home on Thursday when Bowie nipped Erie 3-2 and pinch-hit on Wednesday (o-for-1) when Akron (Ohio) beat Bowie 5-2.

Bowie (x-x) continues the series at home against Erie on Sunday and then plays Binghamton (N.Y.) in a three-game series that begins at Bowie on Monday.

Jarrett is hitting .252 with one home run and nine RBIs this season, which includes a batting .average of 200 with no homers and one RBI in his last 10 games.

As a pro, he is a career .259 hitter. He’s in his third minor league season, playing first at Aberdeen (Md.) and then in 129 games last season at Class A Delmarva (Md.), where he hit .277 with 26 doubles, six triples and 14 home runs.

Jarrett drove in 72 runs, walked 41 times and struck out 136 times and was a South Atlantic League (SAL) All-Star.
