COLLEGE BASEBALL: Lincoln Memorial sweeps 3-game series against Lenoir-Rhyne

HICKORY – Lincoln Memorial completed a three-game sweep of Lenoir-Rhyne University in baseball on Saturday, beating the Bears 9-8 and 10-1 to drop them four games below .500.

The visiting Railsplitters opened the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) series with a 13-4 victory on Friday at Bears Field.

Lincoln Memorial improved to 19-8 overall and 10-2 in the SAC, and LRU is now 11-15 overall, 4-8 in the SAC and 4-10 at home.

The Bears play Belmont Abbey in back-to-back games next, on the road on Tuesday and at home on Wednesday.

Lincoln Memorial 10, LRU 1

E.J. Ranel had an RBI double and two hits and Will Jones had two hits but the Bears scored only once.

Nate Stinson went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs and scored twice for Lincoln Memorial.

LRU starter Paul Hall (3-4) picked six innings, giving up five runs in the first inning. He finished with eight strikeouts and has 19 in his last two outings.

Reliever Joe Bobiak picked up a win for the Railsplitters after going 1 2/3 innings. He walked one and improved to 6-3.

Lincoln Memorial 9, LRU 8

Lincoln Memorial scored three runs in the fourth inning and six in the sixth inning.

Clean-up hitter Chris Salvey went 3-for-5 with a double and drove in two runs to spark the Railsplitters, who had 12 hits.

Grant Fuller, batting leadoff for the Bears, had three hits, scored three runs and drove in a run wile Clayton Jeffries had two hits and two RBIs and Hunter Jackson added two hits.

Ranel hit his fifth home run of the season for LRU.

Bears starter Alex Shirazi pitched 5 2/3 innings, giving up seven runs (five earned) and 10 hits and striking out five.

Reliever Hudson Widrig gained a win for Lincoln Memorial after throwing 2 2/3 innings, and Devin Morris worked four innings to get his fourth save of the season.

Lincoln Memorial 13, LRU 4 (Friday)

Jackson had two hits and Zack Shoemaker and Ranel each drove in two runs but the Railsplitters hit four home runs to win the series opener.

Seth Hunter went 2-for-3 and drove in five runs and Tyler Adams had two hits and three RBIs to lead Lincoln Memorial.

Nolan Flachofsky made his first start of the season for LRU and took the loss (5-5). He gave up five earned runs.

Lincoln Memorial starter Ethan Elliott (5-2) allowed five hits and two runs over six innings, striking out eight.

LRU’s pitchers walked nine.

LRU 8, Benedict 2 (Wednesday)

Jeffries went 3-for-4, walked once and drove in two runs and Aaron Stamper homered as the Bears won in Columbia, S.C.

Brett Fulk started for LRU and went a season-best seven innings, striking out nine and giving up just three hits and one run. Michael Allen and Griffin Templeton gave up one hit and one run combined over the final two innings.

Fuller scored three runs for LRU as its leadoff hitter.
