KENLEY
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The top women’s softball player in the Southeast Region is Lenoir-Rhyne University catcher Sarah Kenley.
She was named the Conference Commissioner’s Association (CCA) Player of the Year for the region in NCAA Division II on Monday.
A senior from Charlotte, Kenley is joined on the All-Region first-team by teammates Sydney Landreth, a senior first baseman from Disputanta, Va., and Erin Boone, a sophomore outfielder from Creedmoor.
Kenley was the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Player of the Year this season after finishing second in the league in hitting (.429). She had a team-best 12 home runs and drove in 55 runs.
Boone is first-team All-Region for the second time after she led the SAC in hitting (.440) runs scored (66) and hits (88) this season. She had seven home runs and 49 RBIs this year.
Landreth has been All-SAC three times. This season, she hit .386 with four home runs, 54 RBIs and a league-high 23 doubles.
LRU went 46-13 this season, including 16-4 in the SAC to share the league title with Carson-Newman, and the Bears won a postseason bid into an NCAA Division II Southeast Regional and they were eliminated last weekend.
First-team selections will move on to the All-America ballot.
The voting, nomination and calculations are all conducted by the school’s sports information directors. The teams are voted on by the members of D2SIDA, NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors Association.
