The two highest remaining seeds in the West 2A bracket — No. 26 South Stokes and No. 14 Draughn — meet this week at Draughn in the third round.
Draughn High’s girls definitely want to keep playing.
On Saturday, the visiting Wildcats rallied after they were down to their last two outs and surprised third-seeded Forbush 4-3 in a second round game of the state 2A softball playoffs.
Draughn (17-6), a No. 14 seed, advances to play No. 26 seed South Stokes (14-12) in a third-round game that must be played by Tuesday.
If Draughn wins again, it will travel to No. 6 Parkwood (20-2) or No. 2 West Wilkes (25-1) in the fourth round.
On Saturday, the Falcons had the Wildcats down 3-1 before Draughn, coached by Chris Cozart, rallied to post its eighth straight win.
Natalie Lail had the game-winning RBI for the Wildcats and was the winning pitcher after she got the Falcons (19-3) in order in the seventh inning.
No. 2 West Wilkes 5, No. 15 East Lincoln 1: West Wilkes (25-1) won at home in a second round 2A match, shutting the visiting Mustangs down after they scored a run in the first inning.
West Wilkes answered East Lincoln’s first-inning run with four in the bottom of the inning.
Up next for West Wilkes is a third round game at home against No. 6 Parkwood (20-2), and the Blackhawks would be at home in the fourth round if they were to win – against No. 26 South Stokes or No. 14 Draughn.
