NEWTON – The lower seeds that stunned the Southern District 7 Athletic 2A baseball tournament by knocking off the top two seeds weren’t able to keep the magic going and get to Friday’s title game.
In semifinals on Wednesday at the Legion Fairgrounds, No. 3 Bunker Hill halted No. 7 Bandys in a 5-4 come-from-behind victory, and No. 4 West Caldwell clipped No. 8 Newton-Conover 10-8 to advance.
Friday’s 7 p.m. title game at the Legion Fairgrounds is Bunker Hill (16-8) against West Caldwell (10-12).
Bandys (7-16) reached the semifinals by surprising No. 2 Maiden 7-4 in 10 innings on Tuesday and Newton-Conover (5-18) stunned top-seeded East Lincoln 6-4 on the road to reach the semifinals.
Friday’s matchup will be the third of the season between West Caldwell and Bunker Hill. The Bears swept the

The highlights from Wednesday:
No. 3 Bunker Hill 5, No. 7 Bandys 4: The Bears won by rallying from a 4-3 deficit to beat the Trojans for the third time this season.
Bandys, which won three games a year ago, was trying to collect its second three-game win streak of the season.
Bunker Hill has won four straight games and won at the Legion Fairgrounds for the first time this season. The Bears were 0-2 in the Catawba Valley Easter Baseball Classic there last month.
No. 4 West Caldwell 10, No. 8 Newton-Conover 8: In the late semifinal on Wednesday, the Warriors won to reach 10 wins in a season for the first time since 2014. They haven’t had a winning season since 2013.
West Caldwell now has a shot at winning three straight games for the first time all season. The Warriors have lost three times in that situation so far this year.
Newton-Conover finished 5-18, closing its 15th straight losing season.
