STATESVILLE – Alexander Central High quickly finished off West Iredell on Friday afternoon, completing a suspended game it led by 13 runs with a 15-3, five-inning baseball victory.
The Cougars (16-8, 11-3) finished in second place in the North Piedmont 3A-4A, a game back of Lake Norman, by beating the host Warriors (5-18, 1-13), who share last place with Statesville.
The game began Thursday and was halted by rain in the first inning with Alexander Central ahead 13-0.
Alexander Central finished with 12 hits, led by three from Tyler Fairchild and two each from Trae Starnes and Matt Wilkinson. Wilkinson drove in three runs and Starnes had two RBIs.
Cougars starter Zach Brzycky (7-2) gained a victory after pitching 1 1/3 innings. He gave up three runs, all earned, with six walks and three strikeouts. Zach Hammer and Justin Cook pitched the final 3 2/3 innings for Alexander Central.
Tyler Williams had the only West Iredell hit and Nick Ward and Eli Kitchens each walked twice.
Austin Laws took the loss for the Warriors, pitching two-thirds of an inning. He allowed seven hits, 10 runs (eight earned) while walking three and striking out one.
