DENVER, N.C. – Two up, two down for Maiden Post 240’s Salamanders.
With Ty Williams and Jay Sipe combining to drive in five runs and Tyler Laws and Ross Fowler posting a shutout, Maiden beat Lincoln County 8-0 on Wednesday night in American Legion baseball at East Lincoln High.
Post 240 (2-0) plays its first home game of the Area IV season on Thursday night at Maiden High, facing Hickory Post 48 (1-2) as part of a stretch of six games in six nights.
Williams went 1-for-3 batting leadoff for Maiden and drove in two runs and Sipe, batting second, went 1-for-3 with a double and drove in three runs. Brantley Durham added two hits and two RBIs for Post 240, which had nine hits.
Laws pitched five innings, giving up four hits, walking two and striking out two, and Fowler pitched the final two innings for Maiden (two hits, walked three, struck out four).
Laws and Fowler limited Lincolnton to six hits, three of them by Tyler Lilly. Laws faced 21 batters and threw strikes on 47 of his 68 pitches while Fowler faced 11 batters and threw strikes on 25 of his 38 pitches.
Starter Will Thornhill took the loss for the Cardinals, pitching 3 1/3 innings. He gave up six hits, six runs (four earned), walked three and struck out three.
