VALDESE – Visiting East Rutherford scored nine times in the opening half of Wednesday night en route to a 10-1 girls’ soccer victory over Draughn.
The Cavs’ victory kept them in a second-place tie with Crest in the South Mountain Athletic 2A-3A, where Kings Mountain is leading at 14-0-0.
Crest and East Rutherford are each 10-2-1 as they play toward completing a 16-match schedule.
A victory by Kings Mountain would lock up the championship and the league’s No. 1 3A playoff bid for the Mountaineers. They are scheduled to face Chase in a league match at Kings Mountain on Thursday at 6 p.m.
Draughn fell to 0-14-0 and has a non-league match on Thursday at Patton and goes to Burns for a league match on Friday at 5 p.m.
