CLAREMONT – Bunker Hill High rolled past visiting West Caldwell 12-0 in five innings on Friday night and ended up sharing second place in Southern District 7 Athletic 2A baseball.
The Bears (14-8, 9-5) and Maiden share second place.
Maiden will go into next week’s conference tournament as the No 2 seed because it went 1-1 against league winner East Lincoln, which swept Bunker Hill in regular season games.
Bunker Hill — winning in Marty Curtis’ 840th game as Bears’ head coach (432-408) — opens the tournament Tuesday at home as a No. 3 seed, facing No. 6 Lincolnton.
West Caldwell (8-12, 8-6) finished fourth and plays at home in its league tournament opener on Tuesday against No. 5 West Lincoln.
Bunker Hill swept Bandys in the regular season, winning 2-0 at Bunker Hill and 4-2 at Bandys.
West Caldwell and West Lincoln split their regular season games with the Warriors winning 11-4 in Lenoir and the Rebels winning 8-4 in Vale.
