STATESVILLE – West Iredell High surprised league leader Alexander Central on Thursday, winning 10-9 in six innings of a rain-shortened game to leave the North Piedmont 3A-4A with co-regular season champions.
The Warriors’ win – coupled with Mooresville’s 6-0 home victory over North Iredell, left Alexander Central and Mooresville sharing the title at 12-2 each in conference games.
Lake Norman, at 11-3, finished third and West Iredell, at 8-6, took fourth place.
Alexander Central and West Iredell shared last season’s regular season title in the NPC 3A-4A, going 12-2 each in league games.
