MEN’S COLLEGE LACROSSE: Lenoir-Rhyne ranked No. 7 in nation in NCAA Division II

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The seventh-best men’s college lacrosse team in NCAA Division II is in Catawba County.

Lenoir-Rhyne University (12-2) is ranked No. 7 nationally and remains at No. 2 in an NCAA

Division II South Regional poll.

Queens nipped LRU 10-9 in overtime in the semifinals of the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) tournament last Thursday, ending the Bears’ win streak at 12.

LRU won the SAC regular season title for the second straight year by going unbeaten in conference play.

Senior attacker Mike Hanlon of Haymarket, Va., leads the Bears this season. He was named the league’s top player and is their all-time leading scorer with 193 points.

Freshman Eric Dickinson of Charlotte won Freshman of the Year in the SAC this season after setting a school record for single-season goals with 49.

LRU is waiting to see if it will gain its first bid into the NCAA Division II lacrosse postseason.

A selection show on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. will reveal the field.

Eight teams get in from the North and South Regions.
