ROCK HILL, S.C. – Lenoir-Rhyne University players swept the weekly South Atlantic Conference (SAC) awards in volleyball on Monday.
The league announced Angelica Arroyo, an outside hitter for the Bears, won Player of the Week for matches played Sept. 24-30 while Helen Hamilton won Specialist of the Week.
Arroyo, a senior from San Juan, P.R., helped the Bears extend their win streak to five matches with league wins over Tusculum and Lincoln Memorial. She had 31 kills, averaging 5.17 per set, 11 digs, four block assists, two assists and a service ace.
Against Tusculum, Arroyo had 18 kills and a hitting percentage of .457.
Hamilton, a freshman setter from Greensboro had a double-double (38 assists, 11 digs) against Tusculum and, for the week, she contributed three kills, 74 assists (12.33 per set), had 18 digs and added four block assists.
The Bears are in third place in the SAC, trailing Wingate and Anderson, S.C., and they are a half-game in front of fourth-place Mars Hill.
LRU’s next match is Tuesday at Anderson, S.C., at 7 p.m. and the Bears face Carson-Newman on the road on Friday at 7 p.m.
