COLLEGE BASEBALL: Stamper’s home run sparks Bears as they win league opener

ANDERSON, S.C. – Aaron Stamper got Lenoir-Rhyne University off to a great start on Friday, hitting a three-run home run in the first inning, as the Bears opened South Atlantic Conference (SAC) baseball with an 11-3 win over Anderson, S.C.

Stamper and Justin Dean hit home runs as LRU, which started 11-1 last season, moved to 11-4 overall this season and 1-0 in the league.

The Bears play at Anderson (3-7, 0-1) again Saturday, a doubleheader that begins at 1 p.m. at Anderson Memorial Stadium.

LRU broke open Friday’s game when it scored five runs in the seventh after being ahead 6-2 going into the inning. Dean, who had three hits and five RBIs, hit a two-run home run in that inning.

The Bears had 15 hits.

Senior Connor Dailey improved to 2-0 with a win in relief while sophomore Nolan Flachofsky picked up a save.

Anderson’s Chandler Castleberry and Matthew Overton hit solo home runs while Andrew Dill took the loss.
