NEW ORLEANS, La. – Lenoir-Rhyne University’s P.J. Lotharp and Cole Henderson earned All-Southeast Region recognition in two events each in selections by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for NCAA Division II.
A press release from LRU said Lotharp, a sophomore from Indian Trail, was picked in the 100 and 200-meter dashes while Henderson, a sophomore from Greer, S.C., was tabbed for the shot put and hammer.
Lotharp holds school records in the 100 (10.48 seconds) and 200 (21.15) and qualified provisionally to nationals in the 200. He was named the 2018 SAC Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year after winning the 200-meter and placing first on the 400-meter relay at this year’s league championships.
Lotharp is also a 2018 NCAA Division II Men’s Indoor All-American in the 60-meter dash.
Henderson also holds the program marks in the hammer throw (155 feet, 11 inches) and earned all-conference honors in the event this year. Henderson’s personal record in the shot put (48-7) was also established this spring.
LRU sophomore Anthony Brown, from Jacksonville, Fla., was named to the All-Southeast Region Team in the decathlon. He won the 2018 SAC Championship in the event with a school-record 5,192 points.
Sophomore Jaquay Mitchell, from Middlesex, garnered all-region accolades in the triple jump. He posted a school record in the event (48-4) at the 2018 league championship, second-best overall, and that earned him a provisional qualifying time.
The top five individuals in each event from each region earn All-Region, in addition to each of the members of the regions’ top-three relay teams. The regions used for this award – Atlantic, Central, East, Midwest, South, South Central, Southeast and West – match those used during the indoor track & field season.
