Nine high school student-athletes — including two from Hickory and another from Newton-Conover — have made the North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association (NCSCA) all-state girls’ soccer teams for 2017.
The selections include senior midfielder Jovanna Sanchez and freshman forward Ayden Vaughn of Hickory in 3A and Madelyn Becker, a senior midfielder from Newton-Conover, on the 2A team.
The girls’ all-state ceremony is scheduled June 4 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Cardinal Gibbons.
The NCSCA has also named its All-Region players, where East Lincoln has four picks and Bandys, Maiden and Newton-Conover each have two on the All-Region 10 team.
On All-Region 10 in 2A are seniors Danielle Colannino and Kali Krehnbrink, junior Sierra Gilley and freshman Taylor Barrineau of East Lincoln.
The selections on the same team are junior Vilma Rivas and freshman Katie Cornette from Bandys, junior Elena Propst and senior Danielle Donovan from Maiden and Becker and freshman Anna Grace Hinshaw from Newton-Conover.
The NCSCA named Claudia Dickey, a junior from Charlotte Latin, as state player of the year.
