Hibriten (14-0) — the defending state 2AA champion — is at home next Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the West 2AA final against No. 4 Shelby (11-3), a 35-7 home winner Friday in the third round over No. 8 North Lincoln … The West 2AA champ plays No. 3 North Davidson (12-2) or No. 1 Ledford (13-1) for a state title on Dec. 15 at N.C. State, time TBA.
Hibriten’s win streak is at 30 games… The Panthers are in their third straight West 2AA final at home – they lost the 3A final to South Point in 2016 and beat Shelby in the 2017 West 2AA title game.
The Panthers are now 33-18 in state playoff games, including 27-7 at Jeff Storie Memorial Stadium (home losses are South Point, 1979; Mooresville, 1995; Bandys, 2003; Bandys, 2004; Waynesville Tuscola, 2009; Forestview, 2013; South Point, 2016)… Shelby and Hibriten will play in the postseason for the third time; other meeting Shelby’s 49-14 home win in first round of 1997 2A bracket.
Bandys is 36-24 in state playoff games, 13-15 in road games (last road win, 49-24 at Newton-Conover, 2012)…Bandys finished 12-2, posting at least a dozen wins for the sixth time in school history (14 in 1996, 1997, 2002; 13 in 1998, 2003).
Howard’s official rushing total won’t be available until game film is reviewed by the Bandys coaching staff. His totals based on unofficial 191 yards against Hibriten:
Season rushing: 303 carries for 2,400 yards (school single-season record), 26 rushing TDs with 12 100-yard games.
Career rushing (school record): 653 carries for 4,635 yards, 45 rushing TDs with 24 100-yard games in 48 varsity games.
Career total offense: 4,795 yards.
Chris Spade, who previously held the Bandys career rushing record at 4,064 yards, was at Friday’s game and wearing his No. 22 green game jersey (he played in 2003 and 2004)… Spade, who now lives in Mooresville, visited with Howard on the field after the game.
The per game rushing averages for Bandys’ top three all-time rushers: Spade, 140.1 in 29 games; Chris Douglas, 112.4 in 29 games (1997-98) and Howard, 96.5 in 48 games (Bandys record 22-26).

The ball just didnt bounce Bandys way ,they dominated most of the 2st half except on the score board but made too many mistakes and missed on a few big passes .Its a shame Howard and Witherspoon didnt make the Shrine bowl .Congrats to Hibriten ,a great team
