CVCC’s next games are Wednesday on the road — a doubleheader against Limestone College’s junior varsity – and the Red Hawks are at home this weekend against Paul D. Camp.

CVCC had six hits in support of freshman pitcher Andrew Patrick – a freshman right-hander who played prep baseball for Bandys. He gained a win after allowing two hits, two earned run, three walks and striking out six.

Eurey’s grand slam came in the fourth inning. He is a freshman who played high school baseball at East Rutherford.

CVCC’s pitching staff struck out 20 – Nic Messina and Greg Collins each got five of those, Elijah Carr fanned two and Chase Covington and Myles White each struck out one.

The Red Hawks grabbed a 3-0 lead in the first inning without a hit. They scored on a wild pitch, a walk by catcher Willie Gordon and a run-scoring fielder’s choice off the bat of outfielder Jackson Brown.

Garrison Burress added to CVCC’s lead in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI single — his team-leading eighth RBI of the season — to make it a 4-0.

The Bears scored in the top of the third inning, scoring twice an RBI sacrifice fly by Adam Dempski and Austin Reed’s RBI double – to get within 4-2.

Led by Eurey’s grand slam and a run-scoring double by first baseman Tyler Campbell (two hits, two RBI), the Red Hawks scored six runs in the fourth inning for a 10-2 lead.

The biggest inning offensively by either team came in the fourth when CVCC — led by Eurey’s four-run blast and an RBI double by first baseman Tyler Campbell — scored six runs to take a commanding 10-2 advantange.

LRU’s final run came in the fifth inning on double by Connor Smith.

CVCC scored a run in the fifth inning on Campbell’s single and Sabion Thomas drove in a run in the sixth via a fielder’s choice.

Reason for forfeit clarified

CVCC Athletic Director Nicholas Schroeder on Monday said the Red Hawks forfeited their third game of the season (at USC Union) after discovering a paperwork error allowed an ineligible player to play in the game on Feb. 10.

Schroeder said the clerical error was addressed and the unidentified player’s eligibility is intact and he’s back on the active roster.
