After graduating in May with a Bachelor’s degree in communication disorders and posting a 3.96 grade point average, Story will begin pursuing her Master’s degree in speech-language pathology at App State in the fall.

The recipients are selected by the Sun Belt Postgraduate Scholarship Committee, which is comprised of Faculty Athletic Representatives from across the conference.

Story had a decorated career at Appalachian State, playing four seasons over five years. She missed the 2017-18 season after an injury and returned in 2018-19 as a red-shirt senior to help the Mountaineers win 22 games.

She averaged a team-best 12.3 points per game as Appalachian State posted the fifth-best turnaround in the country last season and won a WBI title.

Story, daughter of former Mountaineers player Mitzi (Yount) Story and Mark Story, also a former athlete at Bandys High, also averagd 4.7 rebounds last season for the Mountaineers.

For her career, Madi Story scored 1,294 points to rank ninth in Appalachian State women’s basketball history. She is sixth in career free throws (317) and 19th on the all-time rebounding list.

Madi Story cleared 1,000 career points, becoming the 25th player to do so, with a season-high 28 points in an Appalachian State victory over Wofford.

She made the Dean’s List in the fall of 2014 and in the spring of 2016 and made the Sun Belt Commissioner’s academic honor roll in each of her five years in Boone.
