WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Lester scores 31, leads Red Hawks to road victory

MARTINSVILLE, Va. – Sparked by 31 points by sophomore Shaniya Lester that tied her career high, Catawba Valley Community College’s women beat Patrick Henry Community College 84-77 on the road on Thursday night.

The Red Hawks (15-4, 10-1 Region X) trailed by three points at halftime and by two points after the third quarter, but outscored Patrick Henry 26-14 in the final quarter — including 11 points by Lester – to win on the road for the seventh time this season.

Freshman forward Zharia Brown added 17 points for CVCC, while Nikkyana McCaskill (12 points), Tory Agrusa (12 points) and Joyous Wilson (11 points) each reached double figures.

Tyeisha Williams and Zenya Butler led Patrick Henry (8-12, 6-10) with 25 and 23 points, respectively.

The Red Hawks’ next game is Saturday at 1 p.m. at home against Fayetteville Tech. Admission at the Tarlton Complex is free.
