COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Maiden honors its star from Harvard

AUSTIN, Tex. – Former Maiden High star Alex White has become one of the nation’s top football players, earning a first-team spot at linebacker on a widely recognized Academic All-America team.

White, a senior linebacker at Harvard, earned one of 22 spots – there are 11 on offense and 11 on defense, based on positions – on the CoSIDA team (selected by sports college sports information directors around the country).

White, majoring in biomedical engineering, has a 3.89 grade point average.

He played in all 10 games this season for Harvard, which went 5-5 overall and 3-4 in the Ivy Legaue, and had 25 tackles, 4 ½ sacks and six tackles for lost yardage.

White had two tackles and a sack in a win over Brown and had 1 ½ sacks and four tackles against Columbia.

As a junior, White played in eight games and made six tackles. He played in four games as sophomore and played in one game as a freshman.

He had 11 tackles and 23 assists in 22 career games for Harvard.

White was twice a team captain at Maiden and won a letter in football three times. He also played basketball for the Blue Devils and won two letters in track and field.
