BOLIVIA – Catawba Valley Community College added its sixth straight Region X championship in women’s volleyball on Saturday to its run of six consecutive conference titles.
The Red Hawks (25-8, 15-0) downed Cape Fear 3-1 at Brunswick Community College.
Freshman Karsyn Mundy paced CVCC with 11 kills in the match, while sophomore Leslie Leonard added 10 kills and 3 1/2 blocks.
Defensively, CVCC’s Emily Williams tallied a team-best 22 digs and Emilee Webber chipped in 16 digs and made a team-high 31 assists.
Saturday’s win was the second in as many days for CVCC, which defeated Wake Tech Community College 3-0 in Raleigh on Friday afternoon behind seven kills each from Leonard and Sabrina Pinard.
The Red Hawks, whose win streak is now at seven, complete their regular season on Monday with a non-conference contest at Montreal College.
CVCC opens Region X/District P tournament play Friday at 1 p.m. at Brunswick Community College against Guilford Tech.
The semifinals and championship rounds are also scheduled at Brunswick Community College on Saturday.
The winner of the tournament will represent Region X/District P in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division tournament in Charleston, W.Va., starting Nov. 16.
