MORGANTON – William Brawley became the first area player to reach 1,000 rushing yards rushing this season as he led Patton High to a 42-18 victory over Fred T. Foard on Friday night that snapped the Tigers’ four-game win streak.

Brawley ran for 180 yards — pushing his unofficial season total to 1,118 – as the Panthers won a Northwestern Foothills 2A opener. They are 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

Foard (4-2, 0-1), which had posted wins over Bandys, North Lincoln, West Lincoln and St. Stephens, was vying to reach five straight wins for the first time since 2008.

Brawley ran 22 yards for a TD that gave Patton a 21-10 lead, and the Panthers stretched that to 35-10 when Jordan Shipley and Traevon Lytle tacked on scoring runs.

Foard trailed 14-7 after one quarter after scoring on an 8-yard run by quarterback Jack Colosimo.

Daniel Lackey’s 37-yard field goal in the second quarter got the Tigers within 14-10.

Patton was up by 25 points when Foard scored on a 3-yard run by Colosimo and added a 3-yard run for a score by Tate Beaver to get within 35-18.

The Panthers ran for 222 yards on 26 carries, and they limited Beaver to six carries for 46 yards and Corey Siemer, another key scoring threat for Foard, to 32 yards on seven carries.

Beaver had 6 ½ tackles to lead Foard on defense and Jackson Hyatt had 5 ½.

Foard, which won three games last season in head coach Derrick Minor’s first season, continues conference play next Friday at 7:30 p.m. with a home game against winless Bunker Hill.

Patton, whose losses are to Hunter Huss and Freedom, is on the road next Friday for a league game at Draughn.
