HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING: Former Bandys, Hibriten head coach will guide Hickory

HICKORY – Tim Correll — whose previous head-coaching experience in wrestling at six other schools includes stints at Bandys and Hibriten — is the new varsity wrestling head coach at Hickory.

Correll, also coaching defensive line for the Red Tornadoes’ varsity football team, is teaching at Longview Elementary.

“I am thrilled to be back home where I plan to finish my career at Hickory High School.” Correll said Thursday in a press release from Hickory Public Schools. “The school’s long history of strong traditions with a community that supports the school and its athletic programs makes it a great way to spend my final years in education…

“I believe in the foundation already established at HHS and I will work to build a wrestling dynasty that will bring conference and state champions to come.”

With a recent move from Surf City to the Hickory area, Correll has a broad experience in education including serving as an instructional technology facilitator, a regular classroom instructor, a health/physical education instructor and he has extensive experience working with exceptional children.

In addition to his stints as head wrestling coach at Bandys and Hibriten, his other head coaching jobs were at Wilmington Laney, East Carteret, Wilmington Ashley and Northeast Guilford.

Correll has also coached football and track and field at West Columbus, Whiteville and Forbush.

He has degrees from UNC Wilmington and Appalachian State – with combined studies in elementary education and community health education with minors in physical education and psychology.

Correll also earned his Master’s Degree in Education/Instructional Technology Facilitator at East Carolina.
