The Bears (12-6, 7-5) have won at least a dozen games in each of the last nine seasons under head coach Marty Curtis, who next month will be inducted into the Catawba County Sports Hall of Fame.

Bunker Hill had a two-run first to gain an early lead over the Trojans (3-13-1, 3-9), who lost their sixth straight game.

Bandys tied it at 2 in the third inning and there was no additional scoring until the Bears pulled out a win with two runs in the sixth inning.

The victory was No. 430 for Curtis, who is in his 34th year as head coach at Bunker Hill (430-406).

The Bears will be the No. 2 seed next week in the Catawba Valley Easter Classic, which begins Monday at the Legion Fairgrounds. Bunker Hill’s opening round game is Monday at 1:30 p.m. against seventh-seeded West Lincoln.

Bandys will travel to Morganton to participate in the Causby Classic at Patton, playing R-S Central on the opening round on Tuesday.
