OLIN – Lake Norman High heads into the Easter holidays with the North Piedmont 3A-4A baseball lead in hand.
The Wildcats toppled North Iredell 8-0 on the road on Thursday night, securing their fifth shutout of the season to improve to 10-2 in the conference. They are 14-3 overall under head coach Ty Wigginton, a former major-leaguer.
Lake Norman had three teams a game behind it as the night started – Alexander Central, South Iredell and Mooresville – and that is now just Alexander Central within a game after the Cougars beat Mooresville 1-0 on Thursday night and North Lincoln beat South Iredell 4-3.
The Wildcats won for the ninth time in 10 games, rebounding from a one-run loss on Tuesday against Alexander Central in Taylorsville.
North Iredell plays a makeup conference game on Monday at home, facing North Lincoln.
