After not playing in Thursday’s game, Zach Jarrett was back in the lineup on Friday night for Norfolk (Va.) in Durham. He went hitless in a 10-1 loss to the Bulls.
Jarrett, a former multi-sport star at Hickory High, batted seventh for the Tides and started in centerfield. He went 0-for-3, striking out twice, as his batting average dipped to .233.
Jarrett has nine home runs and 33 RBIs as Norfolk heads into games on Saturday and Sunday in Durham.
Former Bandys High star Hunter Harvey did not pitch on Thursday or Friday. He is now in Norfolk as part of a continuing rehab assignment (eight minor league games with a 2-1 record and 8.10 ERA with 10 innings pitched and seven strikeouts).
It is unclear if the Baltimore Orioles will return Harvey to the big leagues this season, and the club recently said that decision should be made within about a week.
The Tides are 45-66 and in sixth place in the Triple-A East Southeast Division, 25 games back of Durham.
Norfolk will not make the playoffs, and will close the season with games against at home next week against Jacksonville (Fla.), starting on Tuesday, followed by five games at Charlotte (starting Sept. 22) and then five game at home against Durham (starting Sept. 29).
Jarrett, in his fourth pro season, has been in Triple-A since a promotion from Double-A Bowie (Md.) on May 19.
He has twice been assigned to the Baltimore Orioles during his career (March 2019 and February 2020), after being drafted by the club in 2017 in the 28th round.
