HICKORY – Catawba Valley Community College’s second-leading scorer in women’s basketball last season will play next season at Montreat College.
On Tuesday, CVCC athletic officials announced Jala Daniels, who averaged 12 points per game while starting all 27 games last season, has signed with Montreat.
“It has been a pleasure coaching Jala and helping her to become a better student-athlete,” CVCC women’s basketball head coach Tisha England said in a press release. “My gift back to Jala is all the teachings and instilling of character, integrity, life lessons and the game of basketball.
“Montreat College is blessed to have a well-rounded student-athlete to be a part of their program. May the blessings upon Jala and Montreat College continue.”
Daniels played high school basketball at Harding University High in Charlotte. She led CVCC in rebounding last season (7.5 per game) and in field goal percentage (52.7).
Daniels’ season-best performance came in January when she scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds in a 77-45 home victory against Fayetteville Tech.
In 19 conference games last season, she averaged 11.9 points and 7.4 rebounds.
CVCC went 21-8 overall last season and 14-6 in Region X.
Daniels is the second player from CVCC’s team last year to continue their career at a four-year university, as sophomore guard Ieshia Love signed with UNC-Pembroke last month.
