Sylvia White is in her third tenure as head girls’ basketball coach at Newton-Conover and has the Red Devils a win away from playing for a state 2A title. Newton-Conover plays Salisbury on Saturday at noon in the West 2A Regional championship at Catawba Valley Community College. White coached the Red Devils to two state title games in her first tenure as head coach, falling to Clinton in one of them and beating Farmville Central in 1991-92 to become 2A state champions.
