HICKORY – Catawba Valley Community College has signed Aasia McNeill, a standout volleyball player at Statesville High, for its 2019 recruiting class.
“We are so excited to welcome Aasia to our Red Hawks family and are looking forward to her immediate contributions on the court,” CVCC volleyball head coach Shannon Hudson said in a press release by the school. “Aasia adds quickness, athleticism and versatility to an experienced hitter lineup for this year’s roster.
“She is a complete volleyball player who can play all six rotations as an exceptional passer and a dynamic force at the net. I admire her passion for the game and can’t wait to see what this season holds.”
An outside hitter and defensive specialst, McNeill played in 107 last season, recording 312 kills, 48 aces, 30 blocks, 382 digs and 16 assists.
Statesville won 11 matches last season and reached the state 3A playoffs.
McNeill was drawn to the Red Hawks because of their success, including seven straight Region championships and a ninth-place finish in the nation last season.
“It is extremely underrated,” McNeill said in the press release. “There has been so much success that has come out of it, and I have heard so many great things about the program. I knew a lot of girls that had been a part of it, and they all had nothing, but good things to say about it.
“It will definitely be a different experience, and I’m sure it will be a lot more challenging but I am ready to give it all that I got.
“Being able to continue my volleyball career is extremely exciting, especially because I know that the girls that I will be with are a great group of girls.”
